Happy Halloween!

October 28th, 2010

Tonight we were out and about in our community for Trick or Treat.  Here are photos of my kids dressed up in their costumes this year.  Luckily, no rain and the temperatures were milder than in past years.

Day 3 365 Project Self Portrait

October 27th, 2010

Earlier this week I received a few new backgrounds and floors.  I got them all out and set up in my “faux” studio just to admire them and play a bit. While, I hope to have more time this weekend working with each of them more in depth.  This self portrait is a quickie from earlier this evening. Not the best but I was holding the camera, shooting and revising my lighting set ups.  I’m not totally happy with the light but its a bit difficult to see how the light is spilling on your face when you aren’t looking in the viewfinder.  :-)   I guess this is better than those silly bathroom camera mirror shots but definitely won’t be using this for any professional headshots either.

Meet Daisy

October 26th, 2010

For Day 2 of my 365 Project, meet one of the furry family members of our household.  Daisy joined our family in July 2009 as a rescue from the local Humane Society. She was extremely malnourished when we brought her home but took a liking to our family quite readily when we met at the shelter. The kids were sold on taking her home the day they met her.  We had to wait 6 days, but who’s counting?  Daisy is our mutt, part German Shepard and what we think to be part lab. She’s a great guard dog yet is full of life and very playful.  Our kids adore her. She’s a bit of an emotional mess sometimes, separation anxiety to be exact, but we do the best we can.  My ability to work at home has been a great thing for her.   Fair warning for those who stop by and hear the crazy barking our dog, its Daisy.  She’s greeted quite a few clients along the way and ever shared some slobbery kisses with those who were gracious enough to give a few extra moments of their time to greet her.

Day 1 of My 365 Project

October 25th, 2010

What is a 365 Project? Typically its started at the beginning of a new year where a person takes one photo a day each and every day of the year. I tried my hand at this before and I think about 3 to 4 months in I was so incredibly bored that I stopped. This time around I have a very different mind set for my 365 Project Purpose. Each photo will challenge me to not think about being hum drum about taking a photograph but rather find something throughout the day to photograph that excites me, stirs my soul, or even challenges my current skill set.  Yesterday I had the immense privilege to hear three amazing speakers,  Scott Bourne, Skip Cohen, and Tony Corbell at GoingPro2010. Scott stressed the importance of taking a picture every day to stay in tune with current skills and photograph things I wouldn’t normally photograph for paying clients.  Tony spoke about identifying and developing my own style and voice through photography. This project will some days take me out of my own comfort level but only to make me a better photographer.  If you stay tuned, you’ll join me for the ride and see where I am a year from now.

For now, I share a photo of a package I received today of new backdrops and floors that I will be using in the near future for some upcoming plans I have of which I will reveal when the time is right.  For now, its just to tease you. Stay tuned, details will be coming though.  Now, I’m off to open up my package and marvel in the beauty of its contents.

Lauren – Tri Valley High School Senior Class 2010

April 21st, 2010

I had the pleasure of working with Lauren this past Saturday on a cold, windy and rather overcast day.  Luckily, she was a real trooper and didn’t complain.  We had a blast hitting up a lot of different locations in the Upper Dauphin County area.  I wish Lauren all the best with her future plans to work in the medical field!

Michele and Christopher November 6th Wedding

November 13th, 2009

Michele contacted me last winter to ask if I was available to photograph their second wedding.  At the time, Chris had been deployed with the Pennsylvania National Guard.  Their first wedding wasn’t all they dreamed and wanted to plan another wedding upon Chris returning home to Pennsylvania.  Michele explained this was to be a non traditional wedding and she wanted more candid shots than posed ones, though she admitted that she had no really nice photos from her first wedding.  I made sure that issue was rectified for them.

Here are some of my personal favorites from the day.  Thank you Michele and Chris for inviting me to spend the day with you and your families in your celebration!

Nolan – Halifax Area Senior 2010

September 8th, 2009

A few weeks ago I met with Nolan and his mom for Nolan’s senior photos.  Mom and I had discussed some locations but she had more ideas when I arrived for the session that worked out wonderfully.  I even had the opportunity to use a few locations I have been wanting to work at for so long but things never quite worked out with other clients.  Thanks to both Nolan and his mom for such a fun session!

p.s. If you live in the area and haven’t eaten at Gonders Grubb House on Rt. 225 in Halifax, stop by and have a bite.  Nolan’s parents own the Grubb House and you might even catch a peek of Nolan working somewhere too.  I personally recommend the cheesesteak.  ;-)
